Welcome to my blog, Sleep is Optional, a title inspired by my daughter and my new sleep schedule. Beyond my daughter’s influence on the title, I do not plan on focusing my blogging on fatherhood or my lack of sleep. (At least not too much). What will I write about? Well, I am a relative new comer to the social media scene so I hope to write about my experiences. I am a government employee so I also plan on writing about governments use of Web 2.0 tools (or Government 2.0). I am also a lawyer so I might write some of my musing about law related topic. Most likely, I will write about those things I think are important, interesting, or both. Hopefully, you will agree. I like to share knowledge and information. So I will do that as well. But irrespective of the topics, I must say welcome, I hope you enjoy, and I hope you find my blog useful. Thanks, Brian

Brian,
I couldn’t find an email address for you, so I hope you don’t mind me using this forum. The subject of this comment has a question attached that matters to bloggers that are both seasoned and new: Why do you blog? I would like to include your answer, short or long, in a weekly post I’ll be doing on my site (ryanerickson.com). The list of other people I’ve sent this question to varies from the professional blogger to the novice ones; though understandably, especially if you’ve seen my site, most of the people I’ve sent this same question to are those who discuss matters of the Coast Guard.
I’m huge advocate for the use of social media tools (especially blogs) in government (i.e. Coast Guard, DHS, etc.) and I’d like to get the take of others in the same position- that is- bloggers, Coasties or not.
I thank you for your time, and look forward to your response. ~Ryan Erickson
